A couple of months ago I bought a really good book called, "The Women's Devotional guide to the Bible"
It's been sitting here getting dusty so I figured I would put it to use. It's designed to have one focus or topic for an entire week. Each day having to do a different exercise or insight, going deeper into the message. In all honesty, I've been having some trouble some times lately. Trials and tribulations. I flipped to the Topical Index. I looked under troubles/ tribulations/hardship/suffering.
Week 20: The Story of Job
Today being Monday, my assignment, in italics, stated "Reading the Word". Under that were these Job scriptures: 1-3; 10:1-7; 16:1-5; 19:23-27; 38:1-15; 42
Monday is outlined into 4 sections:
1) THE STORY
2) THE MESSAGE
3) THE MAIN POINT
4) CONCLUSION
{Hmmmm....I like the layout already. Ok here goes day #1....}
1) THE STORY
Job hurt EVERYWHERE. His wealth and health were gone, he suffered painful sores, but the agony of losing all of his children in a windstorm was much more unbearable. Trying to understand what happened all that would escape his mouth was a deep, ragged, mourning moan. Moments later, Job collapsed to the ground in devastating despair.
2) THE MESSAGE
During the story of Job, amongst the pain, accusations, and tragedy...God remained "behind the scenes". He watched it all unfold yet not once did He step in to fix it. He did however eventually speak. God reassured Job that He loved him and believed he was blameless. At his darkest hour, Job was humbled by God's words. It helped him recognize that GOD WAS BIGGER than all his questions. (Job 42:1-6)
3) THE MAIN POINT
Hold onto to God's promises. Take Him at His word. God says he will work "all things together for GOOD to those who love God." (Romans 8:28) He means it!! I must remember that in the middle of my troubles, my storm... I am NOT alone. God is with me. And even better, He is WILLING, if I will allow it. Allow Him to turn my troubles into triumphs, my mess into a message.
4) CONCLUSION
This was the PERFECT message for me to hear/read today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's devotion, studying deeper into the story of Job and applying His Word to my life.
